Obituary for Byron Theodore Johnson

Bryon Theodore Johnson, age 79, of Marionville, Missouri, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born August 9, 1939, in Marks Creek Township, Richmond County, North Carolina, the son of Chester and Teedie (Knight) Johnson.

Byron was a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School in Rockingham, North Carolina. He served in the United States Coast Guard and he was the owner/operator of Johnson Construction Company.

To his family he will remain a kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. To his friends he will always be “Johnny”. Whether you knew him or didn’t know him, whether you liked him or didn’t like him, he will remain a man of honor and a class act. If you were hungry he would go out of his way to see you were fed. If you asked him for a favor he would do what he could. Even to the end he was a “Man’s Man” and the following words resounded from his lips and in his letters to himself and many others “Stay Strong” and “Be a World Shaker”. Whether you like him or not you can never deny his impact on American Culture. History will forever record him as a “World Shaker”. Those who knew him will remember him as a “Man of Honor” and those who knew him as a person will remember him as “Johnny”.

On January 18, 1960, he married the love of his life, Joyce Mallor in New York, New York.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce; five daughters, Iris Johnson of Sylmar, California, Lori Felton of Springfield, Missouri, Debbie Johnson of Marionville, Missouri, Jennifer Vanderhoof of Eldon, Missouri and Beth Filley of Cameron, Missouri and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His parents, Chester and Teedie, sister, Louise Johnson and brother, Norris Johnson, preceded him in death.

A graveside service, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home in Marionville will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018, at the Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made payable to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home, P. O. Box 103, Marionville, Missouri 65705.
